Surgery

As most of you know Sarah has a congenital heart defect called TOF (Tetralogy of Fallot).  She is going to require open heart surgery once home, however based on conservations with the pediatric cardiologist the long term prognosis is excellent and she will be able to do anything she wants (sports, dance, etc..). We got a call yesterday from our adoption agency and the orphanage said Sarah was up for her surgery and they want to know if they should go ahead and do the surgery now in China or do we want to wait until she gets to the US late this summer?  Wow?  Who would have known we would be making such an important decision already!  We have talked with several people and have submitted some questions back to the orphanage to help us make a decision.  There are pros and cons both ways, but just breaks my heart that she may have to go through surgery without us to hold her and take care of her, but I also don’t want her to have lung damage by continuing to wait.  Please pray that we are able to get the answers we need to make the right decision!  We feel very blessed that the orphanage already recognizes us as her parents and gave us the opportunity to make this decision.  We will keep you posted on what is decided…

  2. That is so hard Angie.

As Momma to 4 from China with CHDs (one with TOF), I would say wait if at all possible. OTOH, our son with TOF had surgery in China and it went well. Then our other son also had OHS in China and it saved his life.

And our new daughter had a surgery in China, also OHS, that definitely saved her life and kept her from lung damage.

I can't imagine how you can make this decision, but I will pray God will supernaturally give you a peace one way or the other so you just know.

Congrats on your daughter! I {heart} heart babies! :)
